PALS Provider Initial Course

HeartCode PALS Skills

This is a self-directed program that uses eSimulation technology to teach healthcare providers knowledge and skills needed to recognize and prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. Students must complete an in-person skills practice and testing session to obtain an AHA course completion card.

Audience: This course is web-based and self paced designed for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. These include personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements and are seeking an alternative (non classroom) method for receiving a Course Completion Card.

Content/Modules: The course includes 12 pediatric, hospital-based, patient cases with up to four healthcare providers, presented through eSimulation technology, systematic approach to pediatric assessment, recognition and management of respiratory and shock emergencies, recognition and management of respiratory and cardiac arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest care and effective communication.

HeartCode PALS Skills (Parts 2 and 3)

In Parts 2 and 3, students will demonstrate proficiency in providing skills in 1- and 2-rescuer Child BLS with AED,1- and 2-rescuer Infant BLS, Management of respiratory emergencies, IO access, and must perform as team leader for one cardiac core case testing scenario and one respiratory or shock core case testing scenario. Successful completion of PALS include three course parts :

  • Part 1, online portion-students should bring the certificate of completion as evidence of successful completion of the online portion.
  • Part 2, a hands-on skills practice session with our authorized AHA PALS Instructor.
  • Part 3, a skills test with our authorized AHA PALS Instructor.

Content / Modules: Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. It is instructor-led and uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms.
